10 old-school ways to celebrate Friendship Month!

September is Friendship Month. This month-long celebration was created ten years ago to honor the people in our lives who make life better. Throughout history, friends have been necessary. In the beginning, friendships were part of our survival instincts. We needed the help of others to gather food, protect one another, build shelters and evolve. Friendships today have changed with tGroup selfie at the coffee shopechnology. Many of us spend little face-to-face time with friends as our relationships have gone digital. Instead of calling a buddy to ask ‘how you are doing?’ we’ll merely “like” a photo.

It’s time to get back to some of the old-fashioned notions of friendship. Although technology has improved our lives in so many ways, it has weakened the relationships we develop with friends. For Friendship Month, we recommend celebrating by going old school with our list of ten activities to do with your friends.

  1. Call your friend on the phone. Your friend might be shocked at first, but a phone call is a great way to connect. Don’t worry; the anxiety of actually making the call will fade!
  2. Host a dinner party. Dinner parties are the best way to hang with friends and they have been for centuries. It doesn’t have to be fancy or Pinterest-worthy. Cook some delicious food together, put the phones away, pour some wine, and have a great time together.
  3. Go on a road trip. Nothing will solidify your friendship more than a great road trip. The ups and downs of travel are a great way to celebrate your bond and make some great memories together.
  4. Do chores together. This one might not be as fun, but working together is a great way to start conversations and get to know one another. Plus, it can make dreaded tasks like laundry day fun when you do it together.
  5. Babysit for one another. Sometimes the best way to be a friend is to serve one another. If your friend needs a date night, offer to watch the kids (or pets) so that your friend can spend time with their partner. Great friends support each other.
  6. Go for a walk together. Most of us do not spend enough time outside. Kill two birds with one stone and go for a walk with a buddy. You’ll both get fresh air and some quality bonding time!
  7. Take a class together. Learning a new skill together is a great way to expand your friendship. It doesn’t matter what it is or how well you do at it. You’ll bond over a new adventure together.
  8. Spend time with each other’s families. Family is the most important thing, and friendship should include family. Get to know your friend’s loved ones to show that you care.
  9. Go to a concert together. Music brings people together. You’ll always treasure a fun night dancing to your favorite artist together.
  10. Send a card! The essential old-school friendship hack is to send a physical card. It’s a thoughtful, kind gesture that says more than a “like” ever could.

Your friends are essential to your emotional and physical well-being. Show them how much they mean to you by going old school and spending time together. You’ll always treasure the memories of your time together more than any meme you could ever share!

To your continued success,

CHEERS!
